    ASSISTANT CONTROLLER | $50-$60/Hour | Columbus, OH | 6-Month Contract

    About the Role:

    Our client, a well-established CPA firm, seeks an Assistant Controller on behalf of an insurance provider in Columbus, OH. This is a critical contract-to-hire role offering the opportunity to join a high-impact environment and contribute to major accounting functions during a pivotal period. The ideal candidate will have a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mindset, ready to take on heavy lifting to support year-end and monthly close processes and maintain financial stability as the organization undergoes leadership transitions.


    Responsibilities:

    1. Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
    2. Provide hands-on support in preparing financial statements and managing reconciliations.
    3. Partner with internal teams to address technical accounting challenges and ensure compliance with GAAP.
    4. Implement process improvements and assist with ad-hoc financial analysis as required.
    5. Collaborate with external auditors, providing necessary documentation and insights.
    6. Engage in cross-functional projects to support organizational goals during a period of transformation.


    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    2. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for backgrounds in insurance or financial services.
    3. CPA certification preferred, though not required.
    4. Strong understanding of GAAP and hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close activities.
    5. Proficient in accounting systems and software, with advanced Excel skills.
    6. Local to the Columbus, OH area, and able to work onsite.
    7. Proven ability to adapt quickly, take initiative, and add immediate value in dynamic environments.
